You're on BetUS, ready to make some cash. All of a sudden, you realize that the lines have changed since my picks came out. No worries; with the simple calculations found below, you can figure out if these numbers are better or worse than the ones I originally reported.
  • For a favorite: amount needed to bet to win $1/that amount + $1
  • For an underdog: $1/amount won when $1 is bet + $1
Too lazy for math? Check out the numbers below; we've done all the work for you.
  • +500 = 17% chance to win
  • +400 = 20% chance to win
  • +300 = 25% chance to win
  • +200 = 33% chance to win
  • +150 = 40% chance to win
  • +100 = 50% chance to win
  • -100 = 50% chance to win
  • -150 = 60% chance to win
  • -200 = 66% chance to win
  • -300 = 75% chance to win
  • -400 = 80% chance to win
  • -500 = 83% chance to win
Take Brock Lesnar (-215) vs. Frank Mir (+205) from UFC 100 as an example.

For Lesnar, the favorite, you take his line of -215. That's the amount you'd have to bet to win 100. So a bet of $215 on Brock would have netted you a $100 profit.

For Mir, it's the opposite. Instead of figuring out the bet necessary to make $100, you simply start with the $100 as your base. A $100 bet on Mir (or any underdog) wins you his line. So, a bet of $100 would have resulted in a $185 profit...if Mir won. Which he didn't. But you get the point.
