Brown starred in the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter television series and was eliminated from the show in the ninth episode due to a loss to Amir Sadollah by Triangle Choke. Brown is a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu who trains with Jorge Gurgel and Rich Franklin. He currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Brown was chosen as one of the thirty-two fighters to get a chance at a six figure UFC contract in The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rampage vs. Team Forrest. Brown officially entered the show after defeating Josh Hall by TKO in the preliminary round. Brown moved on the to quarter finals by defeating Jeremy May in round 1 via a leg kick. After Dana revealed the quarter-final match-ups, Brown would have to face Amir Sadollah but lost to Sadollah by triangle choke in Round 2. Sadollah was the eventual winner of the competition.
Matt Brown won his UFC debut at The Ultimate Finale 7 by defeating Matt Arroyo a season six contestant on The Ultimate Fighter.
Matt Brown lost his second fight in the UFC by split decision against Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 88.
After Matthew Riddle sustained a knee injury during training, Brown replaced him at UFC 91 and fought Ryan Thomas. Matt defeated Ryan by armbar in the second round.
Brown is scheduled to fight at UFC 96 on March 7th, 2009, he is said to fight Pete Sell.
