by Jacob Camargo on June 06, 2009

Bellator Fighting Championships week 10 is now in the books and has crowned its first champion. Joe Soto took home the featherweight belt last night at the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, California. BFC 10 will air on ESPN Deportes tonight, June 6th, via tape delay.

Along with the featherweight championship bout, Bellator FC X featured seven non-tournament bouts.

In the main event of the evening, Joe Soto became the Bellator FC featherweight world champion by defeating Yahir Reyes via second round submission. Soto used superior wrestling to take the fight to the ground for nearly the entire duration of the fight. Near the end of the second round Reyes gave up his back and Soto sunk in a fight ending rear-naked choke.

Along with the Bellator FC featherweight title, Soto took home a cool $100,000, which brought his tournament earnings total to $170,000. Soto advanced to the finals by first defeating KOTC veteran Ben Greer via TKO and then went onto defeat tournament favorite Wilson Reis. Soto will defend his belt at end of Bellator's second season.

In other notable action, former EliteXC featherweight champion Wilson Reis barely pulled out a victory in a close split decision win over Roberto Vargas. WEC veteran Bryan Baker earned a decision victory over UFC veteran Matt Horwich who has now lost three straight and 4 of his last 5 bouts.
