Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira would like to see his friend and teammate, Junior dos Santos, fight either Frank Mir or Mark Hunt instead of a rematch with Cain Velasquez whom he last defeated according to fightersonlymagazine.co.uk.
Dos Santos' current opponent, Alistair Overeem, is at risk of being removed from the upcoming UFC 146 heavyweight title bout due to a recently failed drug test. Overeem will appear before the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) on April 24 for a hearing as well as requesting for a fight license.
"It was a little weird because now it is just around the corner to decide who will be his (Alistair) substitute. If the doping is really confirmed and he can't fight, the UFC will have to replace him on the card...Fans suggested Hunt, who comes off three wins and would be a great fight. Frank Mir would be a good match-up. I think both guys would be more interesting than a rematch against Cain Velasquez, who just lost the title," Nogueira said.
Hunt has gained considerable support from the fans as evident by Rally for Mark Hunt that has spread throughout social networking. Although possibly over-matched against dos Santos, Hunt's granite chin and willingness to stand and trade punches has all the makings for a good fight.
Dos Santos' opponent for UFC 146 will ultimately be determined by the results of Overeem's April 24 hearing. Overeem, who tested positive for elevated testosterone levels by the ratio of 14:1, has cited testosterone replacement therapy and will need to provide sufficient evidence in the NSAC hearing in order to be granted a fight license.
