George St. Pierre is one of the most famous and talented fighters in the UFC, a six time defending champion, but St. Pierre also stresses the importance of his professionalism outside of the cage as the cause for his financial success according to bloodyelbow.com.
"The big companies in corporate America, they're not interested in sponsoring an athlete who is good in his sport but acts like an idiot outside of the Octagon. They want someone who performs well, of course, but acts like a gentleman outside of the Octagon," St. Pierre said.
Contrasted to his peers who usually sport a sponsors laden T-shirt and jeans, St. Pierre can always been seen donning a crisp three piece suit at any one of the UFC's formal events such as pre-fight press conference.
"I wore a suit at press conferences when all the other fighters were making fun of me. (They said), 'Oh, look at St-Pierre, he doesn't wear his sponsor...That's why I behave the way I do and I do things that I do. That's why I have a lot of sponsors. I do have a lot of sponsors and a lot of money because of this. It brings money to the table," St. Pierre said.
St. Pierre is currently recovering from an ACL injury to his right knee and is expected to return to action later this year, scheduled to begin full fight training within the next two months. Upon his return, St. Pierre is expected to fight Carlos Condit to unify the UFC's interim and welterweight belts.
