A welterweight bout between prospects Mike Pierce and Amilcar Alves is expected to take place on the un-aired preliminary portion of the UFC 118 card in August, according to a report from MMANews.com.
Though not officially announced, UFC 118 will take place on August 28 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts and will likely be headlined by a UFC lightweight title rematch between champion Frankie Edgar and former longtime title-holder, B.J. Penn.
Pierce (12-3) is 7-1 in his last eight fights, most recently scoring a unanimous decision win over newcomer Julio Paulino at UFC on Versus 1 in March. His lone loss over that span came in his previous bout against Jon Fitch at UFC 107 in December. Pierce sports a 2-1 UFC record, notching a big upset win over veteran Brock Larson in his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 19.
Since turning pro in December 2006, Pierce has competed for other notable promotions such as SportFight, Elite Warriors Championship and WEC. He has finished seven of his 12 career wins by TKO or KO and holds other notable career wins over Mark Miller, Mike Dolce, Justin Haskins and Paul Bradley.
Alves, who recently signed with the UFC, is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak, with his most recent win coming over Fernando Paulon via first round knockout at Platinum Fight Brazil 2 in December. Prior to the wins, he suffered his first career loss to Fernando Paulon at Top Fighting Championships 3 in May 2007.
The Nova Uniao product has put together a nearly perfect 11-1 MMA record over his four-year professional career, with stoppages coming in seven of his 11 wins.
