It would seem that Nate Diaz is one win away from title contention as he has been told that a title shot awaits him if he defeats Jim Miller next week according to fightersonlymagaznine.co.uk.
Diaz will be fighting Miller on UFC on Fox 3 set for May 5 and both men represent the upper tier of the UFC 155lbers. Although not officially confirmed by the UFC as a title eliminator bout, Diaz says differently.
"That's what I was told was happening...I don't see who else would get a title shot," Diaz said.
Diaz has strung up two consecutive wins since his return to the lightweight division. Donald Cerrone was the last man Diaz defeated, doing so in convincing fashion as he out-boxed Cerrone for the entirety of their UFC 141 bout. Diaz also holds a win over former Pride superstar, Takanori Gomi, at UFC 135 within this span.
Miller sports a 10-2 UFC record, losing only to Gray Maynard and Benson Henderson. He last defeated talented striker, Melvin Guillard, at UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller via first round rear naked choke.
UFC on Fox 3 is set for May 5 at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
