October possible return for Patrick Cote
by Natalia Baage on July 05, 2010

UFC middleweight Patrick Cote is looking to return to the Octagon for UFC 120, he recently announced via Twitter.

"I ll be back in action in October !! It s a new beginning for the predator" he wrote last week.

While not officially announced by the UFC, the only UFC event slated for October is UFC 120, which is set to take place in London, England.

The Canadian fan favorite returned from a long injury lay off in May at UFC 113 where he suffered a loss at the hands of Alan Belcher's rear naked choke. Prior to that fight, Cote fought Anderson Silva for the middle weight title (UFC 90, October 2008), but was forced to retire mid-way through the fight after sustaining a knee injury that left him unable to continue.

Cote's opponent for the October bout has yet to be named, but the middleweight division offers some exciting match ups for the Canadian. Dan Miller and Yoshihiro Akiyama are both coming off of recent loses and could end up across the Octagon from Cote in three month's time.

 |  (38) Comments thug4less: Cote! Cote, Cote, Cote! The Hitman: Not a big Cote guy. I find him very overrated. I say give him Akiyama. mike5k: Cote's a tough guy with a good chin, an entertaining fighter. I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch vs. Leben. The Akiyama idea is interesting but what are they going to do, keep giving Akiyama lesser and lesser opponents until he gets a win? I don't know if that attracts the Asian audience or not but the guy's supposed to be top middleweight and he's 0-2. Belcher and Leben have both improved a lot but let's face it, they're still Belcher and Leben. I say give him Miller or Leben and have Akiyama fight Marquardt, regardless of the outcome of the Palhares fight. Wandering_Minstrel: I like Cote. He's not an amazing fighter but he has solid striking skills. There are plenty of good matchups for him. Its pretty rare for a guy on a loss to be fighting a guy on a win. I think a fight between Cote and Bisping would be pretty cool. Little_Kang: When is Thomas Drawl coming back? Him vs Cote would be good throwingshoes: cote vs silvia rematch! D_V: Well, my hunger strike is over. It looks like this place has a better balance between the sex talk and mma again. On that note, I decided to come in here and set a few things straight. a) Leben ahead of Cote is complete stupidity. Give me a break. He beats a guy in the last minute of a fight he was clearly losing and now he's "back". Do people not remember him being tooled striking by an MMA neophyte last year? A guy with a wrestling background and maybe 2 years, maximum, of striking training. Ya, that's right. He beat Jay Silva, barely, who is a can that wasn't ready for UFC. Then he had a favorable match up against the A train, which he was also losing and benefited form Simpson gassing, then he gets the gift of all gifts against Akiyama and now he's ahead of Cote. uhhhhhh, if you all don't remember Cote kicked his ass. That was a horrendous decision. b) the sexyama vs belcher fight wasn't close, no matter how hard Joe Rogan tries to convince us all. Watch the fight. He landed twice as many strikes as Belcher and completely outclassed him in the first two rounds. He does have to work on his cardio but people are down on him for blowing it against Leben but really, it's not like we all don't know who the better fighter is between those two. c) Cote should be fighting a can like Leben. Akiyama is a little out of Patrick's league. We know he can destroy Leben. He needs to be built up. I think the last fight was a bit of garbage. I thought the spike should have been deemed illegal. One thing is for sure, Belcher isn't a contender. Bisping should get somebody like Belfort in his return. I want to see him get KTFO again. I think that's where Joe Silva is going too. October sees Belfort smash Mikey boy. mike5k: I had Akiyama 30-27 over Belcher, it's just that the rounds were closer than I thought they'd be and I thought he would finish Belcher. I gave him a bit of a pass because it was his debut but still, it was Belcher, and this was Leben. I would still rather see a Leben/Cote and see Akiyama fight someone who's on a roll. He needs a step up in competition and he needs to step up his game. GO HARD: i think the reason why hitboy said cote is overrated is becuz canadians tend to overrate him. he is a really good fighter and seems to be a cool dude. i think he would beat guys like leben and sexyama... and miller, but i would see him losing to guys like bisping and of course belcher and silva and marquardt. D_V: he was not winning if you score it correctly. neither landed anything so aggression should be scored, hence Cote won the first round for sure. He was at least slowly moving forward as opposed to running away like a pansy. Crimsonred: I'd say give him Miller. Not a big fan of either, but still. Cote didn't really impress me, although I haven't really seen any of his fights. Miller... eh. Tonika Fatale: Lol what is all this "your boy" stuff:p Lol j/k
