Shinya Aoki vs. Joachim Hansen III set for DREAM 11
by Jacob Camargo on July 21, 2009

Fighting and Entertainment Group (FEG) has recently announced a third bout between WAMMA lightweight champion Shinya Aoki and DREAM 2008 lightweight grand prix winner Joachim Hansen for the promotion's lightweight title at the DREAM 11 event.

In their first match up at Pride Shockwave 2006, Aoki scored an impressive Gogoplata submission win over Hansen. Hanson got revenge in their next encounter, however scoring a brutal TKO victory over Aoki at DREAM 5 in July 2008.

Aoki is 4-1 in his last five fights, which include wins over Todd Moore, Eddie Alvarez, David Gardner and Vitor Ribeiro. His lone loss over that span was against Hayato Sakurai at DREAM 8 in April. The DEEP, Shooto and Pride veteran has put together a 21-4 MMA record, with 12 wins by submission and has earned other notable wins over Gesias Cavalcante and Caol Uno.

Hansen is also 4-1 in his last five bouts, with the loss coming against Eddie Alvarez at DREAM 3. However, he has yet to fight in 2009 since defeating Aoki to capture the DREAM lightweight title last July. He was originally slated to face Gesias "JZ" Calvancante at "FieLDS Dynamite!! 2008" on New Years Eve but failed the pre-fight medicals and was forced to out of the event with a mysterious "head injury". DREAM also officially announced that Hansen would be defending his belt at DREAM 10 against Aoki, but Hansen was pulled from the card by the promotion for an unknown reasons. The 10-year veteran has fought mostly in Japan for Shooto and PRIDE, while putting together a solid 19-7-1 MMA record.  He has defeated notable fighters such as  Luiz Azeredo, Yves Edwards, Caol Uno, Gesias Cavalcante, Rumina Sato and Takanori Gomi.

DREAM 11 is set for October 6 at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan. The event will also feature the semi-finals and final of DREAM'S featherweight tournament as well as the semi-finals of the promotion's open-weight "Super Hulk" tournament.
