UFC trainer, Jimmy Greninger, says he can get Fedor Emelianenko to compete in the light heavyweight within six months according to mmamania.com.
"With proper nutrition and new methods of strength/endurance training I can have Fedor walking around lean and mean at 215 pounds, and ready for the last 10 pounds of a water weight cut and I can do it in less than six months," Greninger said.
Emelianenko has long fought in the heavyweight division, being recognized as one of the smaller heavyweights in the sport.
His size disadvantaged did little to affect "The Last Emperor" for the majority of his career, with the exception of his fight with Antonio Silva where the noticeably larger Silva out muscled Emelianenko in their bout.
A transition to 205 is definitely doable for Emelianenko but he has repeatedly dismissed any attempts to drop a weight class.
None the less, Greninger states that he will be able to transform Emelianenko to a leaner fighter using "The Caveman Diet". "The Caveman Diet" entails the consumption of lean meats, high protein, fresh veggies and snacking on protein rich nuts/seeds.
Greninger currently works as the Head Ultimate Trainer at the UFC Gym as well as being the captain of the UFC Competition Team.
"In my opinion, he's too small for heavyweight in this era of the 'Super Athlete,' thus the urgency to move to 205 where he can be a serious threat for the next few years," Greninger said.
For the time being, Emelianenko is set to face UFC vet and MMA journeyman, Pedro Rizzo, on June 21.
