Urijah Faber is one of the most popular and recognizable mixed martial artists in the world, but with that fame comes some occasional aggravation. Apparently, Faber is being harassed and challenged to a fight by Manny Reyes, Jr., a former pro fighter who's now a self-proclaimed "internet sensation".
Ironically, while Faber trains for his WEC Featherweight title rematch vs. Mike Thomas Brown he's been getting myspace messages from Reyes, who lost to Brown in the last of his seven fights as a pro. Reyes claims that he's "the baddest hardcore fighter on the planet" and that Faber is ducking him.
"This guy was quite the character man," Faber told Sherdog. "Mandy Reyes Jr., I guess Hermes Franca knocked him out for a dollar because he was talking so much crap. I don't know what his deal is man, he's insulting my mom, calling me a cracker white boy, this, that, and the other thing ...and I just basically sent back, "Yeah, have your manager get you in the WEC and we'll fight."
The Reyes vs. Franca fight that Faber referred to took place in 2004 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Franca knocked Reyes out 37 seconds into the first round. Brown defeated him by choke in the first round of a 2007 fight in Hollywood, Florida. Nothing else shows up on Reyes' professional record after that but there is a recent youtube video of him fighting in an alley against an opponent who was wearing flip flops.
Faber has stopped responding to Reyes' myspace messages but he did have a final warning for him. "Don't make me sick Hermes on you, that's my boy, so I'll pay him a dollar to knock you out again."
